Harrisville School District Announces Principal/Instructional Coach

Abbott first joined SAU 29 in 2003 as a kindergarten teacher at Franklin Elementary School (Keene, NH) where she has also taught first grade and is currently a second grade teacher. Abbott completed her Post Masters Certificate in Educational Leadership from Keene State College. “Mrs. Abbott has demonstrated her leadership abilities through her work within the Keene School District, and has my complete confidence that she will be a strong leader for the Harrisville-Wells Memorial School, building on the solid foundation that currently exists,” said Superintendent Robert Malay. “I look forward to welcoming Kate to the SAU 29 administrative team.”

A selection committee comprised of school staff members, a school board member, and SAU 29 administration reviewed six applications before selecting three candidates to interview, with two finalists brought forward at a public forum held on March 30th. Both finalists received a positive response from the approximately 30 school staff and community members in attendance. After reviewing the public forum feedback, the search committee selected Mrs. Abbott as the candidate to move forward to the Harrisville School Board. “The selection committee worked tirelessly in their search for the next leader of HWMS, no easy feat given the quality candidates brought forward as finalists, said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Ben White. “Ultimately, the committee and the Board selected the candidate they felt was the best match to meet the current needs of the school community.”

In this position, Mrs. Abbott will provide instructional coaching and leadership to support the school and will be responsible for directing the overall site operations, services, and staff. Abbott will succeed current Interim Principal Gina Chace who has been in the position since previous Principal/Instructional Coach Kate Shanks left the district to join the SAU 29 Central Office as the Special Education Administrator for town districts in February 2022.

Upon learning of her selection, Mrs. Abbott stated, “I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to working with the students, staff, and families of Harrisville-Wells Memorial School. As a long-time employee with SAU 29, I am thrilled to continue my work where I began my career.”
